The new Vino Di Famiglia range of wines from Amadio has certainly impressed one of Australia's and the world's most renowned wine critics, Mr. Philip White. Kangaroo Island located 100 kilometers off shore of South Australia was chosen for the world launch of the Amadio new "Vino di Famiglia" wine label. Andrew Duncan, of the Aurora Ozone Hotel, recently spotted the brand on a sneak preview of the new Amadio stock list, and asked for a taste. "Considering the huge number of Italian tourists we have visiting the Island, I was curious straight away", he said. "When I saw the Italian-style packaging I was even keener." "Then, when I tasted the wines, I was very, very impressed", Mr. Duncan said. "Theyre fabulous. We immediately placed a healthy order, after negotiating a great price. Im sure our customers will fall in love with them, whichever part of the world they call home."
Caj and Danniel Amadio explained that the wines were planned, from the vineyard up, to fill the place of the old-style Italian "family wines" that are remembered from childhood.
"There was no pretense", Mr. White said. "Wed sit around the table, with Grandpa, Mum and Dad and the grandchildren, having those big Italian lunches. Wed drink the family wine from tumblers! They were more wholesome, hearty wines: not like the modern Australian wine that's very technical and, to a degree, too much the same."
The wines, a red and a white, have traditional Italian varieties grown at the Amadio family vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. Mr. White told The Islander, "My average point over a week of tasting is around 70/100", "I tasted over 5,000 wines a year. I taste many dozens to get a point above 90. Both these wines take me straight to Italy. They make me hungry! Bulls-eye on both counts. Theyll please the serious aficionado and the casual newcomer in the same happy way. "And at $15 retail, theyre utter bargains," he said. In December, The Wall Street Journal named Mr. White's blog, DRINKSTER, the second best wine site in the world. Reviews for both wines can be found on that site.
"This wine is for drinking from tumblers at well-laden tables, with three or four generations of family". Salute! Danniel Amadio
